My Story

I gave birth on 14th October 2023 at 12 midnight and from then I couldn't hold my urine. I was inserted the catheter that was to be changed after every two weeks. But I didn't wait for two weeks, I used to change it after every four days and it was the most stressful period of my life. I stay with Fistula for 6 months. I couldn't eat or sleep. I was wondering what had happened to me. My mental health was not okay. I didn't know if I'll ever get back to my normal life.At some point, I even thought I was going to die. Until Dr.Arero from Marsabit Hospital gave us Talaso's number who helped us. She took us to Nyambene hospital with all expenses catered for. I underwent the reconstructive surgery and after two weeks, the catheter was removed and I regain my normal life back. I am so grateful for the help the team at 100 bob Initiative gave me. Thank you so much.

Most of the women in Marsabit hide their condition because they are ashamed. Some can stay with Fistula for two, three years. There is even a myth going around back at home that they should eat well and gain some weight so that the fistula hole can close by itself.
