About Us

100 Bob Initiative is a Community- Based- Organization (CBO) that supports women battling Obstetric Fistula and sensitizes on Safe Motherhood within Marsabit County. The Initiative helps the women with reconstructive surgery, psychological and economical support on three levels; Pre-surgery, Surgery and Post- surgery/ follow ups. In addition, we aim to create the much-needed awareness around Maternal Healthcare, Fistula, Early Pregnancy, Early Marriages and Sexual Reproductive Healths and Rights (SRHR). While all expectant mothers might be at risk of fistula, teenage mothers are at a higher risk. Preventing and managing Obstetric Fistula contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal 3 of Good health and wellbeing, Goal 1 of No poverty, Goal 4 of Quality Education and Goal 5 of Gender Equality.

Statistics

In Kenya, two women get Obstetric Fistula per 100 births. This results in 2,400 new cases annually. Marsabit County being marginalized and among the Counties with highest poverty index, there is a high rate of Early Marriages, Lack of Education and Inadequate Quality Health facilities. It is also one of the Counties with the highest rate of maternity mortality rate within the Country hence urgent need for this project to be supported. “Haba na Haba hujaza kibaba” is a Swahili saying that loosely translates into “Little by little fills the pot”. This is the idea behind 100 Bob Initiative. The reason we chose one-hundred- shillings is because Number 100 signifies New Beginning and a fresh start; this is all we hope to give all the women battling Obstetric Fistula with your 100 bob contributions.
